오늘은 설날이다.
수백만의 시민들이 귀성길을 오고 가고 있다.
날씨가 매우 추워 고생이 크고 사고도 자주 일어날 것 같다.
가난한 사람들, 임금을 못 받은 사람들, 주지 못한 사람들, 그들에게는 설날이 큰 고통이다.

나. 가난
꼭 20년 전인 1990년, 서울 번동·중계동·면목동 등에 국내 최초의 영구임대아파트 단지가 착공되거나 완공됐다. 정부는 수도권 일대의 영세민·철거민·무허가주택입주민 등을 이곳으로 집단 이주시켰다. 저렴한 임대료만 내면 ‘원할 때까지’ 계속 살 수 있다고 정부는 선전했다. 서울 2만2천여 호를 비롯해 전국적으로 19만 호의 영구임대아파트가 생겼다. 그러나 1992년을 마지막으로 영구임대아파트 건설은 중단됐다. 그리고 그들은 잊혀졌다. 잊혀졌지만 그 곳에서 지난 20년을 가난과 함께 살았다. (한겨레21, 2010)

어떤 분들은 언론보도에 문제가 있었다고 합니다. 우리 사회 시스템의 문제를 얘기하면서 후보자 개인에게 책임을 묻기 어렵다고도 합니다. 후보자도 그 당시 대입 제도를 얘기합니다. 저는 동의하기 어렵습니다. (금태섭 의원의 Facebook 글)
라. "왜 보나요?"
If all you know about Joe Rogan is his Wikipedia entry—Fear Factor, UFC, stand-up, podcasts with Elon Musk and Alex Jones—and if you make no effort to learn more, he might seem like this gang’s pied piper. And he does give them a platform with a massive audience, which is not just a programming choice but a moral one. ... But that’s not why people are obsessed with him. In reality, it’s because Joe Rogan is a tireless optimist, a grab-life-by-the-throat-and-bite-out-its-esophagus kind of guy, and many, many men respond to that. I respond to that. The competitive energy, the drive to succeed, the search for purpose, for self-respect. Get better every day. Master your domain. Total human optimization. A goal so hazy and unreachable that you never stop trying, until you realize with a kind of enviable Zen clarity that the trying is the whole point. If the world isn’t giving you much in the way of positive feedback, create your own. It’s a tough message for a very rich guy like Joe Rogan to sell, but he pulls it off because he has never stopped coming across as stubbornly normal. He’s from a middle-class Boston suburb, he’s bald, and for God’s sake, his name is Joe. (The Atlantic, 2019)
In 2018, nearly four years after Mr. Cain had begun watching right-wing YouTube videos, a new kind of video began appearing in his recommendations. These videos were made by left-wing creators, but they mimicked the aesthetics of right-wing YouTube, down to the combative titles and the mocking use of words like “triggered” and “snowflake.” ... When Mr. Cain first saw these videos, he dismissed them as left-wing propaganda. But he watched more, and he started to wonder if people like Ms. Wynn had a point. 마. 보편은, 의외로, 한 사람의 이야기 속에 있다
강제노동 피해자 이춘식의 끈질긴 법정투쟁은 훌륭한 기본권 판례를 남겼다. 보편주의의 언어로 한·일 관계를 다룰 줄 아는 새로운 사람들의 출현도 알렸다. 이 싸움은 더 멀리 뻗어가 있다. 이 투쟁은, 우리가 발 딛고 사는 세상이 어떤 균열 위에 서 있는지, 평소에는 매끈하게 작동한다고 생각하던 체제가 어떤 맨얼굴을 하고 있는지 드러내는 더 특별한 기회를 만들어냈다. 우리 삶을 결정하는 근본 조건은 평소에는 잘 보이지 않는다. 질서의 속살이 드러나고, 인권 가치와 국제질서가 충돌하는 딜레마가 떠오르고, 역사와 현실이 강하게 이어지는, 보기 드문 순간이다. 1924년생 이춘식이 이 드문 순간을 열었다. 그래서 이것은 한 사람의 이야기다.
